Prathichaya (2026) Full Movie Review: Prathichaya, directed by B. Unnikrishnan, is a Malayalam political thriller that arrives with a promising premise but struggles to live up to its potential. Nivin Pauly delivers a restrained and surprisingly mature performance as John Varghese, a tech entrepreneur turned reluctant Chief Minister, shedding his boy-next-door image for a more brooding, calculated presence—though critics have noted his character feels like "the lite version of Lucifer's Khureshi Ab'raam."
Balachandra Menon steals the show as the disgraced father, bringing genuine pathos and gravitas to his limited screen time. The film's strength lies in its timely commentary on media manipulation, corporate greed, and how a single allegation—true or false—can destroy a public figure's legacy overnight.
However, the weak script fails to build sustained tension, the antagonist (Sharaf U Dheen) appears miscast and trapped in a role that demands more menace, and the pacing drags considerably in the second half. While The Week praised it as Unnikrishnan's classiest work (4/5), celebrating its old-school charm reminiscent of 80s and 90s political thrillers, The Indian Express dismissed it as "old wine in a new bottle" (2/5), and NDTV criticized its predictable arc and lackluster writing.
