Do Aur Do Pyaar 2024 Review: Drawing inspiration from the film "The Lovers," this romantic comedy spotlights two pairs: Kavya (portrayed by Vidya Balan) and Vikram (played by Sendhil Ramamurthy), alongside Aniruddh (Pratik Gandhi) and Nora (Ileana D’Cruz). The narrative swiftly transitions to reveal Kavya and Aniruddh's life as a married couple, ensnared in the drudgery of domestic life. The plot delves into their tumultuous journey as they grapple with thoughts of separation and an unplanned trip to Ooty for Kavya's grandfather's funeral, an event that unexpectedly reignites the flame in their marriage and presents them with a challenging decision.
While the theme of rekindling love or choosing between one's spouse and a lover is not novel, director Shirsha Guha Thakurta brings a fresh outlook. The film sidesteps preaching and high drama, favoring a more playful tone even as it addresses infidelity.
First-time director Thakurta, along with writers Suprotim Sengupta and Eisha A Chopra, craft a narrative filled with levity and wit, even amidst the most strained situations. Aniruddh's comical gaffe, where he mistakenly calls his father-in-law “Appam,” blending 'Appa' and 'Uncle,' is just one instance of the film's humorous touch.
The first half of the movie flows effortlessly, but the second half encounters some turbulence. Kavya and Aniruddh's efforts to balance their newfound romantic connection with their existing relationships start to feel monotonous. Additionally, the story's pace slackens in the second act, dimming the initial spark of ingenuity.
The film is lauded for its adept execution, thanks to cinematographer Kartik Vijay, ISC. Its polished soundtrack, featuring artists and bands such as Lost Stories, The Local Train (with Lucky Ali's rendition of "Tu Hai Kahan"), When Chai Met Toast, Abhishek-Ananya, and Subhajit Mukherjee, elevates the film's narrative.
The movie's core strength is its cast.
